Thank you for visiting my website. The following is a brief history of where I have come from and where I am on my path towards wellness, understanding and towards greater consciousness.
Since I can remember I have always been interested in fitness and sports. Lucky for me, doing exercise never felt like a chore. I joined every team in school and played competitive volleyball. When I went to University I decided to start weight training more seriously. I thought training for something independently would give me more flexibility in my schedule. This way I could balance sport, study and my part time job. I did weight training in total for about 15 years. I started doing bodybuilding contests as a challenge. It is a very tough sport and I had trouble getting lean. At the time I was very headstrong, so I just muscled through it all, even though I wasn't feeling good. While training for my last contest I was feeling really terrible starting from about six weeks away from the show date. I was having episodes with my heart. I was having heart palpitations and it was making me feel lightheaded, like I was going to lose consciousness. Two weeks away from the show I ended up in hospital with a minor heart attack. I was 32 years old. It was not recommended that I lift heavy weights any more. Immediately after the heart attack, I would get tired from walking for five minutes and have to sit down. I was terrified, I used to train for three hours at once, no problem. I had a lot of anxiety and fear around it. What happened here? I thought I was invincible and strong. I followed the ‘no pain, no gain’ philosophy. I pushed too hard, to the extreme. My mind definitely overpowered my body and spirit, until my body said no more. I had to change and find a more balanced approach and SLOW down. It took a year for me to recover.
This is when I started yoga. I liked the safe environment it provided. I went at my own pace, which was pretty slow at first. I ended up trying more vigorous styles of yoga, but eventually had to slow down again, since some styles do not work for my body. Now I have been practicing yoga for fifteen years and teaching for ten. I did my basic and advanced courses at the Downward Dog Studio, Toronto. I am also certified in Mat Pilates from the East to West Yoga and Pilates Studio.
I started meditation when I was a child, around 10. I was taught the ‘kids’ version of TM – Transcendental Meditation, which was a walking version repeating a mantra. Thankfully, learning something when you are young, makes it easier to grasp. I have had a meditation practice since then. Sometimes off and on, but as I started practicing more yoga I meditate more.
Through practicing Yoga and Qi Gong, I gradually began to pick up on subtle energies in my body. Feeling Prana or Chi created a great interest in developing more skills in this area. For years I have been developing sharper attunement to healing energies and being able to help others with it. I help people create a healing environment in the body, so that the body can work more efficiently. I bring in healing energy and help the person let go of energies that are no longer needed. This brings more clarity and balance for a person to help them move forward with a new perspective. I am currently working with two modalities, Reiki and Craniosacral Treatments. I have completed the Second Degree in the Usui System of Natural Healing studying under Agnes Toews Blakely. I have an advanced certificate from the Cranial Therapy Centre in Toronto. I am currently studying to be an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy.
