Usui Shiki Ryoho Method
Reiki is a Japanese healing system created by Mikao Usui in 1922. It involves connecting to Universal Life Force Energy, the energy that keeps us alive and well. There is physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means ‘Universal’ and Ki which is ‘Life Force Energy’. This energy is called different things in different cultures. In Indian Yoga tradition it is called Prana (breath of life). In China they call it Chi (vital energy). When a person’s energy low, they are more prone to sickness and disease. Increasing the energy promotes healing in the body.
The ability to connect to Life Force Energy is passed on by receiving an ‘Attunement’ from a Reiki Master. The Reiki Master connects the student, bringing the energy through the crown chakra. The Reiki practitioner then has access to an unlimited supply and is able to transfer Life Force Energy to another person.
In a typical Reiki session the person would lie on a massage table fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner would perform a Byosen scan. This is done by skimming the hands above the person’s body looking for areas of disturbance in their energy field. Once a potential area is found, the Reiki practitioner can hover the hands above or lay their hands directly on the area. Reiki can be chakra based, but not always. Different Mantras and Reiki Symbols are used in different situations.
